Population Growth
One of the key forces driving food demand is population expansion, in particular in the developing world.
Population projections predict the world will need to feed more than 9 billion people by 2050, with 95% of the growth occurring in the developing world. This is a 50% increase on the population level in 2000. There are signs that population growth is already impacting on food availability, consequently driving food prices upwards.

Some developing countries are already facing mounting difficulties in meeting their populations’ basic food requirements.
The World’s population has been growing rapidly for several decades. We feel that global inventories show that we are near an inflection point as they have been run down over the past decade and are near all-time lows:

Total world grain production has fallen short of global demand in seven of the last eight years. We think this inevitably points to increased agricultural commodity prices over the next decade.
